Wow. The Tribeca Film Festival is over – OK it was over May 2nd. Just now catching my breath. As an Artist Liaison for the festival, I get to see loads of films. Some glorious—like the narrative “Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll” or the doc “The Other City” (check em’ kids). Some stinky films—lips sealed (and not in the H.Duff-duet fashion, really sealed).
In film news, the best documentary I’ve seen this year wasn’t at TFF. Yet, the strong, female narrative, is right up (my idol) Jane Rosenthal’s alley. With feminist pioneer, Perry Miller Adato, acting as a TFF juror this year – I couldn’t help but think that the documentary “Huxley on Huxley,” directed by Mary Ann Braubach, would have rocked the TFF house. Mary Ann Braubach, producer of my favorite film, “Four Days in September,” beautifully crafted a unique doc about the fringy, inspiring woman, Laura Huxley. She sat…not so much behind, but next to Aldous.
From a conservative upbringing to a swinging marriage, “Huxley on Huxley” is the story of love, loss, sex, drugs, and bouncy balls. The farthest from cliché, you’ll cry a bit, laugh a bit, and fall totally in love with Laura Huxley. I cannot recommend this film enough.
