Good for her, eh!

by Web Intern

Reading through our BUST Myspace page invites can prove a daunting task for us ‘terns at the mag; going through club flyer after club flyer…and bday invites from peeps who rented out a club for their party (no kidding, we get a LOT!), until, of course, there’s an event that speaks to us enough to tweet , hot date, research and blog about. The Feminist Porn Awards was one such invite.

Hosted by Good For Her, the annual Feminist Porn Awards (in their 4th year so far,) will be taking place this weekend in Toronto, eh! It’s a 2-parter, starting on Friday, April 24th when the awards will take place at Berkeley Church, and on Saturday, April 25th, where there will be a showcase of screen clips from nominated films at the Royal Cinema. I’m not too sure what kind of awards will be given out, but the Good For Her website says, ‘Also, there will probably be naked people,’ as far as what to expect. I hope so! By the way, you must be 19+ to attend.

Also, the site lists the things that a film should portray in order to be a winner of a Feminist Porn Award: ‘a woman had hand in the production, writing, direction, etc., of the work; it depicts genuine female pleasure (no fake Os here!); it expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film and challenges stereotypes that are often found in mainstream porn; and of course, it has to be hot!’ There are men in some films, but without portraying women in a negative way. Feminist porn is less low-budget, degrading, and cliche. It’s a revolutionary, artistic expression of sex, because, duh, women are visually stimulated, too.

I wonder if they’re anything like the sex scenes from The L Word , but now that I’m done researching feminist porn, I think I’m gonna research where to get some!
