Riot Grrrls of Los Angeles, put down your out-of-tune electric bass and listen up!
This weekend is the inaugural Grrrls on Film, a three-day film and music festival featuring screenings, panels, workshops and live performances.

Sharon Mooney, assistant clinical professor in the School of Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University, was craving a punk community on campus when a chance connection put her in touch with Evelyn McDonnell, assistant professor of journalism and new media. They connected over a shared interest in girl bands and punk films, and, as the women told LA Weekly, they just had to find a way to bring their passion to LMU. Thus, Grrrls on Film was brought into the world, kicking and screaming!

Friday night kicks off with screenings and Q&As. The revolution continues Saturday with more films and panels. Sunday burns it down to the ground with the concert Grrrls on Stage, hosted by Alison Wolfe (Bratmobile) and featuring performances by Kim and the Created, Colleen Green, Peach Kelli Pop and more!

Best of all, the weekend’s events are FREE and will sprawl out over the university’s alumni mall with Razorcake, Honey Power, Ovarian Psychos, Rock Camp for Girls L.A. and KXLU, to name a few. Don’t miss the Hannon Library-hosted zine-making table! Food and other vendors donating 10 percent of their proceeds to the scholarship fund provided by LMU’s Committee on the Status of Women.
