Barbie’s “Shero” line is a part of a bigger campaign by Mattel called “You Can Be Anything”. The goal is to use their products to inspire young girls to pursue any career interest they want. The “Shero” line includes famous and positive role models for young girls. Some of the lovely ladies who’ve been immortalized in plastic are Ava DuVernay, The Director Of Selma, Emmy Rossum, the actress in the hit show Shameless, Eva Chen, former Editor-in-Chief Of Lucky Magazine, and ballerina Misty Copeland.
Douglas’ barbie is officially available for purchase nationwide. Douglas told The Huffington Post, “It’s so important in the African American community to have that doll that looks like you. For me that’s really big because it sends a positive message saying, you know what you can go out there and achieve your goals no matter what your hair looks like, no matter what color your skin is.”
