Feminist Tweeters Combat Tabloids’ Scrutiny Of Women

by kelsey haight

Okay, tabloids are annoying enough to begin with but the amount of shade they throw at women trying to complete simple tasks is totally ridiculous. Can’t they stop dramatizing every little move celebs make?! Vagenda Magazines twitter recently asked followers to ‘normalize’ hypercritical tabloid headlines and boy oh boy did they come through. Retorts vary from complimenting celebs for being normal human-beings, to simply acknowledging how good everyone looks and they should be left alone.

It’s annoying enough for celebrities to be stalked and idolized, but the assumptions made about their lives are even worse, no action goes unnoticed. Ladies are judged all day everyday, but to be placed under the magnifying glass of tabloids makes every move seem ridiculous. It’s disrespectful and paints a terrible picture of media perspective when they are all caught up on one wardrobe change or subtle glance. THAT. AIN’T. NEWS.

This whole project also brings up serious issues with body policing, slut shaming and all the shit women put up with. By editing the headlines, tweeters remind us that the media has very little respect for the female form and that we just need to support one another in order to feel good all the time. This fixation with others isn’t healthy and just teaches everyone that its okay to by hyper-critical and rude towards everyone. Imagine if these kinda headlines were paired with candid yearbook photos…so much shame would ensue. Thankfully we can all remind one another that we rule

So, these sassy tweeters gave us some more appropriate and…honest headlines to lend some perspective on the whole matter. These normalizing headlines combat judgment and drama with a sense of humor. Peep the unspectacular tweets below and see if you can come up with some cheeky commentary yourself!
