Even If You Have a Non-Working Breed

by Web Intern

It’s Take Your Dog to Work Day! This very important holiday started in 1999 to promote pet adoption and show off how awesome companion dogs are.

It’s true. People who have dogs see serious health benefits including lower blood pressure and stress levels. It’s also been shown that elderly or ill people who have a pet to care for live longer because they have someone depending on them – a reason to get out of bed no matter what else. Pets can also ease mental illnesses like depression and PTSD. Not to mention the fact that dogs are the best listeners and snugglers around.

If your boss and co-workers are on board, you should totally take your poochie to the office today! If you can’t do that (because you work with someone who has allergies or your boss is just a cold and heartless beast) today is a good day to do something kind for the animals. OK, every day is a great day to do something kind for animals. If you’re in the market for a new best friend, check out a local shelter, breed rescue or Petfinder instead of going to a breeder or, even worse, a puppy-mill supporting pet store (which is basically ALL of the ones selling puppies). If you aren’t searching for puppy love, donate some money to the ASPCA or your favorite pet charity (do a little research before picking one to make sure they aren’t using deplorable tactics to get their message across).

I was going to see if I could bring my baby girl into the BUST office today, but then I remembered – I have a Min Pin. I would have spent the whole day following her around trying to keep her out of trouble and I wouldn’t have gotten anything done. Hopefully using one of her many adorable puppy pictures on this post will suffice. Here she is, hard at work helping me move. In fact, if you can’t take your dog in either (or even if you can), you should leave us a link to a picture because we all need some warm fuzzy doggy love in our lives. -Liza
