Can Paulette Jordan Swing Idaho Blue?

Paulette Jordan won the Democratic nomination in the Idaho governor’s race this Tuesday, Vox reports. As a two-term state lawmaker of the Coeur d’Alene tribe, she has the support of Planned Parenthood, People for the American Way, Democracy for America, Indivisible, and People for Bernie Sanders and Cher. She is campaigning to raise the minimum wage, legalize marijuana, expand health care, and fight climate change. If she wins, she’ll become the first Native American governor in the US. She’s got our vote. 

University of Southern California Gynecologist Accused of Sexual Harassment

University of Southern California’s only full-time student health clinic gynecologist, Dr. George Tyndall, has a long and storied history of misconduct during pelvic exams, including taking photos of students’ genitals. Complaints against him began in 1990 and persisted until 2016, when he was finally asked not to return to the clinic, with pay. You can read more details at the Los Angeles Times.

Teachers March For More Funding in North Carolina

NBC News reports that teachers in North Carolina marched on their capital to demand raises and more state funding for education. The mass exit caused dozens of school districts to close schools. “We have suffered through a decade of cuts,” Beller, one of the teachers that walked out, said. “So this will be a sign of strength, a sign of power, a sign that North Carolina fully believes in public schools.” This happens on the heels of the Oklahoma teacher strike and we hope that these teachers and school receive the funding they need.

Twitter Will Hide Tweets That “Detract From the Conversation”

Twitter has announced that it will start hiding tweets unless you click “show more replies,” or go into your settings and choose to “see everything,” in hopes of limited accounts that doesn’t technically violate policies but are actively offensive. “The challenge for us has been: how can we proactively address these disruptive behaviors that do not violate our policies but negatively impact the health of the conversation?” says vice president Del Harvey. New Pages of Anne Frank’s Diary Discovered

New pages of Anne Frank’s diary have been discovered by researchers in the Netherlands. Frank wrote four “dirty’ jokes and more then 33 lines that explained sex, contraception, and prostitution,” Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House, said in a statement from the museum. “They bring us even closer to the girl and the writer Anne Frank.” Read more at The Washington Post.

Mexico’s Supreme Court Rules That Abortion For Rape Survivors Is A Human Right

Mexico’s Supreme Court rules that women and girls over 12 in Mexico who become pregnant as a result of sexual violence have the legal right to an abortion. This change in the laws is the first step in removing the stigma from abortion. Read more at Ms. Magazine.

Racism in Fresh Kitchen

Gothamist reports that an unknown white man threatened to call ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) on two female employees at Fresh Kitchen on Madison Avenue because they were speaking Spanish. “My guess is they’re undocumented, so my next call is to ICE to have each one of them taken out of my country. If they have the balls to come here and live off my money—I pay for their welfare. I pay for their ability to be here.” He said clearly unaware of how welfare works or that people can be bilingual without being undocumented.
