During a conversation on BBC Newsnight Friday, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the We Should All Be Feminists author, shut down grumpy troll/American Spectator editor-in-chief R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. when he insisted that Trump “hasn’t been racist.” “If you’re a white man, you don’t get to define what racism is,” she said. “It’s not about your opinion. Racism is an objective reality, and Donald Trump has inhabited that reality.” Tyrrell’s response to that elegantly stated truth? “You know, the false consciousness theory that you’re talking about is a Marxist concept.” Adichie’s eye roll following that statement is the most flawlessly executed expression of disdain I have ever seen.
