Chelsea Handler Has The Perfect Response To Baked Potato Sean Spicer

by Miriam Mosher

While the entire Trump administration— including the giant Cheeto himself— are excellent fodder for comedy, Spicer and his outrageous press conferences are the ultimate low-hanging comedic fruit. Melisa McCarthy has perfectly parodied his press conferences on SNL, but, as Chelsea Handler demonstrated on last night’s Conan O’Brian, it doesn’t need to be full on parody to express the sheer absurdity of the situation. Handler’s incredulous response is the tonic we all need after a Spicer press conference.

“How about that Sean Spicer, baked potato guy, huh?” Chelsea said with her signature chuckle. Remarking on his latest despicable gaffe in which he called nazi death camps ‘holocaust centers’ and said at least Hitler hadn’t used chemical warfare she muttered, “yeah, because he’s such a great guy.”

“It’s just like, he’s so stupid. He can’t possibly be that stupid naturally” she wondered, with a dubiousness that is the perfect balance of performativity and sincerity. Imitating an off the cuff Trump, she jokingly postulates, ” I believe that Donald Trump, right before he goes out there, is like say something about Hitler, say something about the Holocaust. And then Sean Spicer is in the middle of diarrhea, pulling his pants up, and he has to go out there and just lie over and over and over again.”

Conan, who had previously commented that Chelsea watches the press conferences as a form of entertainment, made a note that Spicer had, indeed, apologized. “Whatever that means nothing at this point.” Chelsea responded, “I don’t understand how you can keep that job and go out there and do that. Does he think this is going to end well for him?” Adding adamantly, “He’s going down!”

Calling BS on the whole press room dynamic, she just wants to be there and ask, “How do you feel about working for a man who says one thing on Wednesday and another thing on Friday? ” She wants to as ask him things that you can prove he lied about, but “instead,” she says, “they ask him serious questions as if he’s got a fucking answer. He doesn’t know what to say. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about!’ Preach, Chelsea, preach.
