As an individual with many varying passions and interests, it’s likely you’ve accumulated a lot of stuff over the years. You contain multitudes and so does your home. You’re a collector with the persistent need of more shelf space to prove it. But if every surface of your living quarters is covered with odds and ends, and clothes are pouring out from your overstuffed closet, it’s no surprise that life may look and feel chaotic. It’s often said that with a clear home comes a clear mind, so if you find yourself frequently in search for something you literally just had in your hand, or feelings of stress and irritation arise whenever you look at that growing pile of whatever on your desk, a little editing may be in order.
And you’re not alone. The tremendous acclaim of Marie Kondo’s book and subsequent Netflix show about her KonMari method of tidying, have made the organizing consultant a bona fide celebrity. Before-and-after pictures of closets and storage spaces going from messy to pristine have eclipsed the popularity of avocado toast and pink wall Insta pics. It seems everyone wants/needs/is in the process of decluttering and simplifying. And this “decluttering trend” could be a very good thing for the environment.
But where do you begin? How will throwing out your eraser collection from third grade reduce your carbon footprint? And how do you get into the habit of living minimally when you’re so accustomed to living maximally? Artist and activist, Corinne Loperfido will be tackling these questions at our Zero Waste event Saturday, July 13th! Loperfido has been living a zero waste lifestyle for 1.5 years and spends half of the year traveling in her van. A multi-talented multi-hyphenate, Loperfido has a lot of wisdom and experience to share and we can’t wait to learn how to make the most with less and live zero waste at home and on the road!
