Zero Waste Crafting: BUST’s Debbie Stoller Teaches Macramé Basics

by Amy Hagedorn

If you are anything like me, you have logged countless hours on Instagram pouring over photos of people’s living spaces. If you don’t happen to share my affinity for home decorating trends, allow me to offer you some free advice: macrame. From intricate art pieces, to statement rugs, this knotty craft is having a moment in interior decor. The best part? With innovative recycled yarn brands like Hoooked (and some practice), you can bring this fresh trend into your home at minimal cost to both your wallet AND the environment!

On July 13, join none other than BUST‘s Editor-in-Chief and New York Times best-selling knitting author, Debbie Stoller and learn the basics of macrame through making a simple plant hanger using Hoooked’s RibbonXL yarn, made from recycled t-shirts. For ticketing info, click here (space for this course is limited, so act fast!)

Hoooked, who is one off the sponsors of Zero Waste this year,  has created a  line of yarns with a focus on their environmental impacts. Their flagship product, playfully named Zpagetti, is the original t-shirt yarn, made from recycled fabrics from European textile manufacturers. RibbonXL is a lighter version of the same yarn, made from recycled cotton material. Eco Barbante is a mix of 85% recycled cotton and 15% other recycled materials, and is a strong, fine yarn perfect for work such as amigurumi and hooked rugs. And Eucalyps, one of their newsest releases, is yarn made from sustainable eucalyptus trees.
