Beth Ditto Just Dropped A Swoonworthy Single

by Miriam Mosher

BUST darling and all around feminist badass Beth Ditto just released “Fire,” the first single from her upcoming album Fake Sugar. Due in June, this is her first full-length solo album and we couldn’t be more excited!

Combining an ebullient melodic drive with a melancholy croon, ‘Fire’ is pure magic. Last year Ditto told Pitchfork, “It’s gonna be my Southern record but not necessarily a country record.” The Southern inflection couldn’t be more on point, blending a soulful gospel quality with a catchy alt-country vibe that perfectly compliments her throaty singing style.

The album cover, also just released, is channeling a Stevie Nicks-meets-Mama Cass vibe that suggests a tonal departure from her long-term band Gossip.
