We have your daily dose of “hate bait” right here. It’s called “Babes for Trump,” and it is both vomit-inducing and emotionally disturbing. The “Babes for Trump” Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram accounts display numerous photos of half-naked, bikini-clad, cleavage-baring women with different captions about supporting Donald Trump. Their mission: “Making America Great Again One Babe At A Time.” You may ask yourself how these women showing off their boobs and butts will contribute to making America great again. I certainly did.
Let me be sure to point out that these accounts are run by four college men, who will not disclose their identities. They did, however, recently tell the Huffington Post that their goal is to “create a unique platform for college students, primarily women, to express their political views.”
When I found these accounts, I have to say I almost couldn’t write about it. It was a real-life “I can’t even” moment. I found the posts BEYOND upsetting. Sitting at my computer scrolling through, I was audibly groaning, gagging and crying out, “What the actual fuck?! How is this a thing?”
It is important for me to say that as a feminist, I am of course one hundred percent on board with women having bodily autonomy and the freedom to show off their tits and asses if they so choose, but the idea that this is how women are encouraged to express their political beliefs is just too much to handle. The men in charge of “Babes for Trump” also told HuffPo, “Just recently a woman from California reached out thanking us for giving girls the chance to be heard and praised for their thoughts without being attacked. These pictures represent women in a manner to which they can be desired.”
So that basically implies that women can only be heard when they’re willing to show a little under-teat. Here, women are being valued only for their sexuality and not for their minds.
The Huffington Post also points out that the politician these women are “supporting” with their naked bodies is one whom “has a long and storied history of equating a woman’s value with her looks.” I mean, remember that time Donald Trump said, “I mean, we could say politically correct that look doesn’t matter, but the look obviously matters, like you wouldn’t have your job if you weren’t beautiful.” This is the man who truly believes a woman’s worth is solely dependent on her appearance, and these women are not only okay with that, they’re playing right into it.
Yes, women have butts and boobs and both of those are amazing things, but we also have brains and beliefs and opinions. Let’s not forget how incredible those things are too.
