Amy Schumer Shares A Non-Apology Letter To Trump Supporters in Tampa

by Kelly Walters

Amy Schumer called Donald Trump an, “Orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster” in Tampa, Florida on Sunday, and some of her audience members were not thrilled about it.

During the Tampa performance the comedian invited an audience member who supported Trump on stage with her. When Schumer asked him if he was worried about Trump’s temperment and impulsivity, some audience members began to boo, resulting in many walking out.

During her Tuesday show at Madison Square Garden, Schumer read an open letter she wrote to Tampa.

“Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now,” Schumer said. “How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”

The open letter came after Schumer proposed, in an Instagram post, a “Squeaky clean show,” using #TampaApologyTour.

Schumer’s letter continued, “After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy. Both the rich, entitled, white people who are gonna vote for him and the very poor people — who’ve been tricked into it!”

“And Tampa, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said that he was an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster. Shouldn’t have said that. I will never again say that he is an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster!”

In a statement to PEOPLE, Schumer said she loved the crowd in Tampa and the 8,400 remaining audeiences members.

“We have always depended on comedians to make us laugh and tell the truth. I am proud to continue that tradition,” Schumer said.
