Alex Lahey’s “Every Day’s The Weekend” will make you feel like Saturday every day. “Fuck work, you’re here/Every day’s the weekend,” she sings.
And with the jobs featured in her music video, you can’t really blame her for the sentiment. The Australian singer-songwriter takes us through shitty, albeit interesting, jobs ranging from a sleepy pickle inspector to a disappointing cake decorator. The video is super adorable, and the song is definitely dance-party worthy.
This pop-rock single is an ode to wanting the weekend to last forever with someone special — especially if that special someone has a life to return to come Monday: “You’ve got things like a family/They’re a bigger deal than I’ll ever be.” With energetic instrumentals and a clear, powerful voice, 24-year-old Lahey captures the complicated relationships of young adulthood. Rejection is Lahey’s wheelhouse, and she approaches the subject with both vulnerability and a sense of humor.
Last year’s “I Don’t Think You Like People Like Me” topped Australian radio charts, and we think she’s going to continue her success stateside. Also check out Lahey’s second single off her debut album, “Lotto in Reverse,” which dropped on Spotify this week. I Love You Like a Brother is out October 6th.
