South Carolina: Can’t Beat ‘Em? Kill ‘Em!
As if a six-week ban isn’t enough punishment for pregnant South Carolinians, state lawmakers introduced a bill to classify abortion as homicide, punishable by the death penalty! Sure, why not double down on an incredibly harmful and unpopular law by adding even more layers of bullshit? The pro-”life” movement has spent decades telling the public they won’t criminalize pregnant people… at least now they’re finally saying the quiet part out loud.
Ken Paxton: Putting The ‘Asshole’ in Tex-as(shole)!
A frequent flyer on our shit list, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against a telemedicine abortion provider for mailing abortion pills to Texas residents. This will be the first real test of abortion provider shield laws, manifested by a crusty-ass snitch of a boyfriend angry that his partner exercised their bodily autonomy. This rock ‘em, sock ‘em legal battle between New York and Texas has far-reaching implications across the abortion world, from fetal personhood to shield laws to interstate abortion access. What a time to be alive!
In Our ERA Era (See What We Did There?)
What is white and blue and only has a month left? JOE EFFING BIDEN CODIFYING THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT (ERA)! Introduced in the 1970s but only meeting the number of states required to ratify it in 2020, a growing movement is pushing Biden to order the archivist (did you know that position existed before this?) to sign and seal the deal. A huge step for gender equity and abortion access. Watch Senator Kristen Gillibrand explain exactly why Biden should make the ERA happen on his way out of office and before Trump can get his tiny little hands on it.
