You Don’t Need To Be The Mother of Dragons To Rock This Khaleesi Braid. Here’s How:

by Devon Preston

While Daenarys Targaryen is great and all, you don’t need to hail from Dragonstone in order to recreate her famous hairstyle for yourself. With the help of Sarah Hiscox and Willa Burton, the creators of The Braid Bar and the authors of The Braid Book, anyone can master this warrior-inspired hairstyle. Follow their instructions below:

Khaleesi Braid

To begin, you will need a wide-toothed comb or hairbrush as well as priming spray, a fine-toothed comb, crocodile clips, and elastic hairbands.

Start by detangling your hair and spritzing it with the primer. Then use the pintail of your comb to part your hair down the center.

Then you will create a second parting a few inches down from the center. Curve it around to meet the end of the middle parting at the crown. Twist the hair into a bun and clip out of the way. This will look a bit like a wedge shape.

Step 1

Repeat this step on the other side of the center parting.

Next begun dutch braiding (instructions can be found on pages 24 and 25 of The Braid Book) the side section of hair that has been left out. Curve the braid around the ear and down to the nape of the neck. Stop at the nape and tie with an elastic band.

Step 4

Repeat this step with the other side of the head.

Step 6

Now, take out one of the sections that have been clipped away. Begin to dutch braid from the inner corner closest to the center part and braid the outer perimeter until you reach the back. Clip away and repeat with the other half.

Step 7

Once you reach the end of this section join both braids together in a dutch braid and clip away at its halfway point.

Step 8

Lastly, once your braid reaches the nape of your neck, use the four-strand technique (or Dutch) and braid all the remaining hair together. Secure with an elastic band.

Finished Look

So there you go, you’re now one step closer to achieving Khaleesi realness. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a new office hairdo or want to blow everyone away with a full Khaleesi costume on halloween—this look is stunning and universally flattering on all hair types and textures.
