Imagine a comic book superhero. Can you name more heroes who are men or women? Many comic book lovers have wished to see more strong, bad-ass ladies saving the world and their prayers will be answered by Womanthology: an all-female-created graphic novel anthology of lady superheroes!
About a month ago, a group of both comic book industry pros as well as up-and-coming comic book creators met to discuss funding the project and launched a Kickstarter campaign as a result. Now they’ve reached well over their printing costs funding goal and plan to release the book in October. Another amazing thing about Womanthology is that all proceeds from the book sales will go to charity.
The comic book creators involved–like DC writer Gail Simone and Marvel artist Annie Nocenti–have all mentored and inspired each other throughout the creation of the anthology. These women are passionate about creating their stories, as well as passing on their love of comic books to the next generation. The anthology will also include several how-to guides and interviews which will help to further inspire the next generation of female comic book creators. These are short stories about lady superheroes, created by some real life lady superheroes.
