Woman in Bikini Kicked Out of Water Park for Full Figure

by Katharine Ernst

Now to get kicked out of a child’s swim park you have to be doing something pretty obscene, right? Wearing a bikini apparently falls under that context.

Madelyn Shaeffer, a 42-year-old mother from Missouri, was kicked out of Adventure Oasis Water Park for wearing a bikini on premises. Such a scandal, America!

While playing with her children in one of the park pools, Shaeffer was approached by park staff and they asked her to put shorts over her bikini bottom. After seeing that no one else was asked to cover up, Madelyn rightly refused, exercising her right to wear a swimsuit while in the water. Later on police came to escort her out of the park.

Madelyn is convinced that her age and her fuller figure are why she was asked to cover up. She says, “Just the fact that there were other girls wearing string bikinis – 15, 16, 18 years old – beautiful young bodies, and they are not being told to cover up. I mean, do I have to be 16 and look 100 percent perfect to wear a bikini? Or can I be comfortable in my own skin. Am I allowed to have a matured body?”

Madelyn raises valid points. Innocent pool fun when it’s hot permits bikini wear. As long as you’re comfortable in it, why not? She was wearing what most women choose to wear while in the water in the summertime. Its good for us to see all different types of bodies—young, mature, skinny, and large—that way kids see that bodies are different and do, in fact, change over time.

A 42-year-old woman is not going to look like a 16-year-old girl but should be able to wear a bikini while in the pool with her kids. Good thing Madelyn is causing a stir and sharing her experience. Adventure Oasis Water Park has still not commented on this incident. What do you other BUSTies think about this?
