On September 5th a new web series is debuting on Wifey, a website started by the two badass feminist writer/creators Rebecca Odes and Jill Soloway. RODS AND CONES follows the adventures of two pairs of comedians competing at the Over the Shoulder Comedy Boulders Festival. Tara Jepsen and Beth Lisick star as Carole and Mitzi, whose Hot Mom act is the act to beat for their comic rivals, two struggling performance artists (played by Jibze Cameron and Erin Markey).
Jepsen and Lisick have collaborated onstage and onscreen since 1999, performing at Dixon Place, UCB Theatre, SF MOMA and screened their films at OUTfest, Frameline, and the Mix Film Festival of Sexual Diversity in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Los Angeles-based actor, writer and skateboarder Tara Jepsen has toured and performed extensively with seminal queer cabaret Sister Spit since 1997 and is featured in several short films including artist Stanya Kahn’s new piece “Don’t Go Back to Sleep” (currently showing at Susanne Vielmetter Gallery in Los Angeles and streaming on Kahn’s website).
Beth Lisick is author of four books including the New York Times bestselling comic memoir Everybody into the Pool, hailed by the Kirkus Review as “light, flippant and savvy.“
