Wife Takes Care of the Sex!

by Lisa Kirchner

Thank you, Peter Elkind, for wresting yet another freak show moment from the annals of Eliot Spitzerdom. In his new book, Rough Justice, Elkind quotes the former governor’s wife as saying, “The wife is supposed to take care of the sex. This is my failing; I wasn’t adequate.”

Does that not sound disingenuous to anyone else? Even for the Xanax-faced bride who stood by Spitzer in one of the best/worst press conferences ever. (Tiger, had you brought your wife to your conference, you might own this title. Next time!)

Silda Wall must really love being remembered as The Good Wife. Having had all the post-mortem time (the dropping the Spitzer name, the taking back the Spitzer name), why else would she spout such a line? If she has taken him back, how does blaming herself reconcile with her own acceptance of the situation? I don’t remember anybody being too perturbed when Liz Hurley and Hugh Grant stayed together through his blow-job-from-a-hooker sex scandal. Most of us just figured, girlfriend just doesn’t like to give head. Are we to think, now that they’re back together, Silda has found her way to adequacy? Now THAT would make an awesome TV show.

I suppose we could give her some props for sticking to her vows, but surely that voice is drowned out by the screams of, “OMFG NYDN say THAT!”
