Who’s Lana Del Rey And Why Is Amy Klein Blogging About Her?

Lana Del Rey came out of nowhere. The New York singer/songwriter’s new song, “Video Games” has every music blog scrambling to figure out who she is. Del Rey, whose real name is Lizzy Grant, just rescheduled her first two shows in New York and L.A. to find bigger venues. And it seems like everyone has something to say about her Brigitte Bardot-esque bedroom hair and pouty lips. But Amy Klein isn’t a fan. Titus Andronicus’ resident female has a bone to pick with Del Rey’s message.

 On Klein’s blog she wrote:

Lana Del Rey is sitting at home waiting for you to come home so she can fix you dinner and a drink. Lana Del Rey is waiting for you to come home so she can watch you play video games on the couch and ignore her all day until it’s time for bed. Lana Del Rey is waiting for you to come home so you can go to bed and act out all of your wildest fantasies which is exactly what she wants to do—what you want to do, that is. Lana Del Rey is waiting for you because she is your mirror.

When Del Rey sings, “it’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you” Klein questions Del Rey’s sincerity. Is the Jessica Rabbit guise all for theatrics? Does it even matter?

Lana Del Rey is the lie we like to tell ourselves—that America has always been, and will always be, this gorgeous woman who can make all our dreams come true,” Klein says. “So it doesn’t matter if she loves you or hates you because she is going to take all of your money and you are going to let her get away with it. That’s the reality of who she is.”

What do you think? Is Del Rey owning her sexuality or is she just conforming to a man’s fantasy?
