Whoa! Janeane Garofalo on Criminal Minds

by Mary S

When I heard the radio commercial for the newest Criminal Minds spin-off, Suspect Behavior, I was shocked to find that it starred none other than famed feminist comedienne (and former BUST cover lady) Janeane Garofalo. Turns out Garofalo is taking the role seriously, telling the LA Times, “I don’t think I’m that funny. I feel uncomfortable saying, ‘How does a funny person get involved in this?’ because comedy is subjective. So how do I get involved with deadly serious things? I don’t know, but I think there is something about dark-haired women with deep voices of ambiguous sexuality that plays into dramatic programming.” (Whatever!)

Janeane seems like an unlikely choice; she isn’t known for dramatic roles and her leftist politics and work with Air America has made her a few enemies among the conservative set/those who leave tirades at the end of news articles. But she did guest star on 24, and clearly doesn’t view herself as a purely comedic actor. Plus, it’s become quite common for well-known actors to work on popular TV shows, especially the never ending CSI and Law and Order spin-offs.

Sadly, I don’t have a TV, so I’ve been missing out on all the big events, like the Black Eyed Peas at the Super Bowl that everyone hated, and Anne Hathaway and James Franco at the Oscars which everyone also hated, so I haven’t had a chance to watch it.
