You guys, do you know about Who Took the Bomp?, the new Le Tigre documentary? I was lucky enough to check out its New York premiere last week at MoMA and I have three words for you: go see it. If you can watch it in a theater full of like-minded riot grrrls, even better. If not, nab the DVD when it comes out in June and relive those blissful, dance-ridden years in the privacy of your own home, where no one will look at you strangely if you try to emulate the band’s choreographed moves (bonus). As if the film itself wasn’t inspiring enough, Kathleen and Johanna did a little Q&A afterward (JD was out of town, on tour with her new band MEN), along with the doc’s director Kerthy Fix and Carmine Covelli, who shot all the footage. Of course they were as honest and interesting as ever, but the most exciting bit of info was dropped by Kathleen, who said that her revival of Julie Ruin, now dubbed the Julie Ruin Project, was recording this weekend which means an album can’t be too far away. With MEN’s LP out now and a Julie Ruin one in the works (plus the ability to get a hair cut at Johanna’s West Village salon if you live in N.Y.C.), life is rich with post-Le Tigre love. Thank God.
