The Residence

Debuts on Netflix March 20

Straight from Shondaland comes a new murder mystery at the most famous residence in America: The White House. Starring Uzo Aduba as Det. Cordelia Cupp, a quirky investigator who must put her skills to work after a murder at a state dinner, causing a lockdown at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in which visiting dignitaries and staff are all potential suspects. Co-starring Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, the offbeat whodunnit is loosely based on The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower.

The Handmaid’s Tale (Season 6)

Debuts on Hulu April 2025 

The sixth and final season of the dystopian adaptation will explore the fate of the totalitarian theocracy of Gilead, along with the future of series protagonist June, portrayed by Elisabeth Moss, who also directs several episodes this season. Based on Margaret Atwood’s chilling  novel, the dramatic conclusion of the Hulu series is set to leave a lasting impact on viewers, many of whom may resonate deeply with the fictional handmaids living under the oppressive patriarchal ecclesiocracy.

Dying for Sex (FX)

Michelle Williams once again showcases her acting prowess as she steps into the role of Molly, a woman whose late-stage cancer diagnosis grants her a new lease on life. After years of emotional and sexual neglect from her husband, Molly decides to spend her final days embarking on a journey of sexual satisfaction and self-discovery. Along the way, she uncovers parts of herself long buried beneath trauma and shame. Based on the podcast of the same name, this limited series blends pitch-black comedy, provocative themes, and poignant tragedy to tell a story of sexual reawakening—and a reminder that it’s never too late to evolve.

Black Mirror (Season 7)

Debuts on Netflix April 10

Charlie Brooker’s darkly satirical sci-fi series returns this spring with brand-new episodes designed to make you despise your gadgets all over again. Featuring a typically stacked cast of celebrities—including Paul Giamatti, Issa Rae, Will Poulter, Peter Capaldi, Chris O’Dowd, Rashida Jones, Awkwafina, and Tracee Ellis Ross—this season also includes a much-hyped sequel to the iconic episode “USS Callister.” After nearly 15 years of making audiences fear bees, computers, security systems, social media, reality shows, and dating apps, the groundbreaking series is back to remind us there’s still plenty left to dread.

Miss Austen

Debuts on PBS May 4

Adapted from Gill Hornby’s best-selling novel, this four-part Masterpiece miniseries chronicles the lives of Jane and Cassandra Austen, portrayed in flashbacks by Patsy Ferran and Synnøve Karlsen. With dual narratives, the story centers on a much older Cassandra (Keeley Hawes) as she tries to shield her long-deceased sister from newly discovered letters that could tarnish her reputation. The uncovered correspondence compels Cassandra to reflect on their origins, as well as past entanglements and emotional connections involving the Austen sisters.

Poker Face (Season 2)

Debuts on Peacock Spring 2025

The trial and tribulations of human lie-detector Charlie Cale continues after a two-year hiatus as the snarky casino worker puts her skills to the test as a super sleuth, solving crimes thanks to her uncanny ability to sniff out liars. Played by the indomitable Natasha Lyonne, the Rian Johnson-produced mystery series promises more murders, more mayhem, and a whole bunch of big name stars, including Cynthia Erivo, Katie Holmes, and Giancarlo Esposito. But it is Lyonne’s Cale that is the undeniable draw of the show, an unlikely she-ro who evolves from slacker to savior thanks to her savvy, sarcasm, and smarts.

Karen Pirie: A Darker Domain

Debuts on BritBox April 2025

Inspector Karen Pirie is back, making her way to American screens as the adaptation of Val McDermid’s novel crosses the pond to deliver its signature blend of chills and intrigue. Lauren Lyle reprises her acclaimed role as the sharp and tenacious cold case expert. This time, Pirie tackles a decades-old case involving the murder of an heiress and the disappearance of her young son. Packed with unexpected twists, gripping mysteries, and the darkly comic “gallows humor” that set the first season apart, Lyle’s refreshing portrayal of Pirie brings a smart, scrappy edge to the police procedural genre.
