BuzzFeed has developed into a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I could admittedly spend hours sifting through its array of YouTube channels, laughing over the things babies do that’d be creepy if I did them, rejoicing over the fact that there are 11 goats that are JUST LIKE ME, and marveling at the remarkable evolution of the burrito. And while largely, these clips serve as a way to bond people over their mutually strange and awkward lives, BuzzFeed will occasionally use its vast web influence as a platform for discussion of very socially relevant issues in a way that is both hilarious and ironic.
Recently, BuzzFeed has been embarking on what seems to be a crusade to expose the casual sexism that women face on the daily with their videos If Men Were Women, If Guys Acted On First Dates Like They Do on Tinder and If Girls Hit on Guys Like Guys Hit on Girls. On August 7th, they came out with another vid, and this one is seriously a home run: “What Men Are Really Saying When Catcalling Women.” I think it’s one of BuzzFeed’s best videos to date, hilariously and tastefully telling catcallers that they need to shut the eff up! (Because we all know that they’re all just insecure about their own pathetic lives.)
The video shows a bunch of run-of-the-mill instances of catcalling, with a little twist. While rudely walking up to girls and making obscene gestures, these asshole guys shout what they actually mean when they catcall. Some of my favorites include “Oh, what up little mama? I’m extremely sexually frustrated,” and “Daaamn this is the best part of my day, and I realize how sad that is!”
So watch the vid below! And next time some loser tries to catcall you, try not to get too upset or offended, because you know what they REALLY mean.
