Watch the Premiere of Blues-Folk Act Smoke Fairies’ Recording Documentary

by Tess Duncan

We’ve been fans of duo songstresses Smoke Fairies since their debut release Through Low Light and Trees back in 2011. The British gals, Katherine Blamire and Jessica Davies, have fine-tuned their haunting harmonized vocals and powerful dual guitarwork over the past six years. Smoke Fairies put an eerily brilliant spin on blues rock by incorporating classic folk elements into their sound, especially on tracks like “Let Me Know” and “Awake.”

The psych-folk ladies are now releasing an EP in honor of Record Store Day this Saturday, April 20th. They recorded the EP in a series “Upstairs at United Record Pressing,” located in Nashville, TN. We’ve got the premiere of Smoke Fairies’ recording documentary below, where you can see the story behind the recording process. The duo discusses their love for Nashville, which makes sense considering they were the first UK group to release a single on Jack White’s Third Man Records. BONUS: There’s super cool footage of the vinyl getting pressed and finished at the end. NEAT.
