Watch M.I.A’s New Politically Charged Music Video

by Claire Filipek

M.I.A released an uncensored music video for her song “Double Bubble Trouble” off her 2013 LP Matangi. She directed the video herself, but let her fans know via Twitter that her label was holding up its release.

Soon after the tweet, M.I.A took matters into her own hands and uploaded the video herself.

Universal Music Group obviously did not okay this move and the video was blocked within minutes, as UMG cited copyright infringement.

A few angry tweets from supportive fans later and M.I.A’s “problems at the internet” seem to have been solved.

Watch her new video, which manages to combine 3-D printing, parrots, monkeys, and other imagery to create a powerful ‘science-fictiony’ dystopia with a political bite.

Also sure to check out this FLAWLESS remix done by none other the Sri Lankan artist herself.
