There’s Now A Highlighter For Your Vulva, Because Of Course There Is

by Erika W. Smith

The highlighting craze has been everywhere for the past few years — and we’re not talking about the office supplies.

With holographic highlighters, rainbow highlighters, *pizza* highlighters, and more, and with highlighter being used everywhere from cheekbones to nose to shoulders to cleavage, we should have known that vulva highlighter was an inevitably.

Yep, that’s right! Unlike Passion Dust — aka a tube of glitter intended for you to (but which you SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT) stick up your vagina — The Perfect V’s Shades Of V Very V Luminizer is intended to be used on your vulva.

So, what is this vulva highlighter? The Shades of V Very V Luminizer’s instructions say, “For instant radiance, lightly dry the V (the bikini line and visible delicate skin of the triangle area) and apply a small drop of Shades of V™ Luminizer.” It’s touted as having “skincare benefits” that include “Luminious iridescent color to add some extra prettiness to the V,” “Renews and improves the skin, making it appear more youthful and fresh,” and, “Brightens and minimizes the appearance of skin imperfections.”

But what the heck is *in* this luminizer? An ingredient page on the website lists some general Scandi-cool ingredients, like lingonberries and elderflower. But there’s not a specific ingredient breakdown.

Unlike Passion Dust, Shades of V’s website looks professional, minimalistic and millennial pink — shades of Glossier. They’ve got an active Instagram account filled with suggestive pics of thin, young, white women. If it was selling moisturizer for your face or something, it might have a dedicated fanbase.

But vulva highlighter? No thanks. For one thing, your vulva is fine as it is. It doesn’t need to sparkle! It doesn’t look too old or too ugly! It’s a vulva!

For another thing, DO NOT PUT A PRODUCT NEAR, IN, OR ON YOUR GENITALS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS IN THAT PRODUCT AND ARE 110% SURE IT IS SAFE.

Stay safe, pals.
