Vote, Ladies! (And Check Out These Stats and Vids While You’re At It)

by Brittany Houlihan

If you want women to have the same rights as men, the best thing you can do is vote tomorrow.  The ERA Education Project focuses on ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment, which simply states that women and men are equal under the law.

“Why is this still even a question? Aren’t all people supposed to be equal in the U.S.?  Aren’t women people?  What on earth is going on here?” says Kamala Lopez, founder of the ERA Education Project.  She’s got a point, especially when women in many other countries have the rights that women in America still don’t.  Check it out:

Gallup released some statistics about female voting, which Mother Jones compiled into useful charts.  Here are some of the statistics that you need to know:

  • 1 in 4 Americans of voting age are single women.
  • As many as 32,000,000 voting-age women may lack ID that states their current name.
  • Less than 20% of Congress members are women.
  • In 2011, 26 states enacted 69 anti-choice measures.

So ladies: please, please, please vote tomorrow.  Vote even if you think your vote doesn’t matter, because it does.  It is more important now than ever before.  And if you don’t vote, you might end up feeling like the woman in this video…forever.
