L.A.’s Lone Justice helped pave the way in the early 1980s for alt-country Americana artists like Neko Case, Patty Griffin, and Wilco. Lead singer-songwriter Maria McKee was the little diva whose voice really packed a wallop. They broke up in 1987 and recently reunited to finish previously recorded tracks for this new album. There’s an eclectic mix of material like MC5’s “Sister Anne,” Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” and The Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks.” This is a welcome return for an innovative, kick-ass band who will hopefully now finally get their due.
