Valerie June’s “Owls, Omens and Oracles”: A BUST Review

Valerie June’s sixth album explores various themes, such as celebrating and being open to one’s happiness (“Joy Joy”) coping with the world’s challenges in a harmonious fashion (“Endless Tree”), and moving forward with faith (“Trust the Path”). June seamlessly combines psychedelia, folk, indie rock, Appalachian, bluegrass, country soul, orchestral pop, and blues music to create her own aural universe. She’s backed by a killer band and accompanies herself on guitar, banjo, and piano, all of which perfectly support her vocal style. Valerie June sounds, looks, and performs like no one else. Which is very rare.
