Upcycle Your Old Junk to Create Unique Accessories

by Ariana Anderson

Though Kat Roberts has worked as a footwear and handbag instructor at FIT and 3rd Ward, what she really loves is “making beautiful new things from the destroyed and discarded.”

So this spring she created a blog, We Can Re-Do It, on which she shares some of her creative repurposing ideas. Her projects are all surprisingly easy and cheap, yet the results are stunning.

Follow her instructions to turn a lame logo bag into a lovely summery tote:

Or turn an old belt into a cute headband:

Transform an old grandpa sweater into a cute halter dress:

And, my personal favorite, here she shows how to use elements from broken jewelry to create a cool new multifacetetd necklace:

For those of you who weren’t quite lucky enough to attend the BUST Craftacular last weekend, where Kat’s company Whitehaus was a vendor, you can also purchase her wonderful creations from her Etsy store.
