“Dear Cis People” is making waves with its bold mission statement and arresting messages. The tumblr, which is controlled (and minimally edited) by a trans woman named Amy, describes itself as “a place for trans people to send an anonymous message to the cis population as a whole,” as well as “a means of opening a communication line from people who are often silenced, either inadvertently or otherwise.” Challenging a culture of silence, these stark confessions speak loud and clear.
The passage on Wednesday of an anti-trans bill in Arizona makes these heartfelt messages all the more relevant. The bill, which will protect business owners who ban customers from using restrooms that don’t match the gender on their birth certificate, passed in a 7-4 vote.
