Timbaland Joins Western Union to Bring Back the Singing Telegram

by Intern Kaisa

Do you love communicating your thoughts and feelings entirely through song, like R. Kelly? This holiday season, send an online singing telegram to friends and family via Western Union’s new-and-improved service. Though the company shut down its traditional singing-telegram operation in 2006, it’s now making a comeback, with help from megaproducer Timbaland.

Think, “Elf Yourself” or any other popular online holiday-gram from the last few years, where personal photos are superimposed over cartoon dancing elves to deliver a seasonal smile to friends and family. Except with artists such as Snoop Dog, Timbaland, K’Naan and Sunidhi Chauhan on the menu at Western Union’s site, you get just a little more cool than kitsch with your holiday greetings.

On the WU site, senders go through the four-step process of picking a song, uploading their photo, singing (yes, karaoke style), and then mixing their own voice with that of their star of choice. The singing telegrams are part of Western Union’s new brand “Move Money for Better” which focuses on creating “better moments.” Until December 31st, you can deliver these gems for free at their website.
