This Cannabutter Recipe Will Melt In Your Mouth

by Kaleigh Wright

This 4/20, we’re excited to bring you a recipe for “cannabutter” — cannabis-infused butter — courtesy Oregon-based edibles company Undead Edibles

The most important recipe for UnDead Edibles is our Cannabutter. Cannabutter is incredibly versatile; you would use Cannabutter in place of regular butter for any recipe. You could even use it as is, which is a plus for those of us who might not be culinary inclined. Simply slap it on your toast in the AM or slather it on your steak at night; the uses are endless. It does take quite a bit of time to cook so be prepared to watch over it for a few hours.

For your Cannabutter you will need:

4 sticks of butter
1 ounce of cannabis (I prefer to grind the cannabis beforehand)
A large glass bowl, or deep baking dish

Recipe:

Add 4 cups of water to a medium saucepan. The amount of water can vary, just make sure that the cannabis is at least 2 inches from the bottom of your pan.

On medium heat boil the water, once boiled, add the 4 sticks of butter.

When the butter has melted, lower the heat as low as possible (to barely a simmer) then add your cannabis. Make sure you stir well to combine.

Now you will leave it alone to cook for about 3 hours, YES, 3 hours. That will give the cannabis time to infuse with the butter.

After the three hour mark, you are going to use a very fine mesh strainer, or cheesecloth, to strain the mixture. Strain it right into the bowl or baking dish.

The mixture will be piping hot so leave it out for about 30 minutes to cool.

Once cooled, toss it into the fridge, uncovered, for about an hour or until the mixture forms a solid block. At that point, you will see that the water and butter has separated, the butter is now hardened.

Now, carefully take the butter out of the baking dish and place it upside-down on a cutting board or plate. You will notice the bottom side has a dark, sort of slimy substance on it. You simply scrape that off gently and discard, VOILA, you have your butter!

I store mine in a glass Pyrex bowl with a lid. Make sure it is covered well. If your Cannabutter is stored properly, it could last a month.
