Thelma & Louise Turns 20: Celebratory Screenings in L.A. and N.Y.C.

by Lisa

The phrase “Let’s not get caught” has never held so much weight as it does in the final scene of Thelma & Louise. No matter how many times I’ve seen it (a lot), I still get chills. Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis are just SO DANG good, and talk about a feminist classic. The film turns 20 (!!) this year which means New Yorkers and Los Angelenos have a chance to not only see it on the big screen at special showings, but also to hear discussions about its impact from a panel of cool ladies in the industry (N.Y.C.) and the cast and crew themselves (L.A.). Read on for the info and get yo’self a ticket! If you don’t live in either of these cities, I suggest putting Thelma & Louise in your queue and holding your own damn screening with all your besties. Cause seriously, why not?

N.Y.C. Screening at 92Y Tribeca

Tuesday, August 2, 7:30 pm

Panel featuring: Jaclyn Friedman, feminist activist, executive director of WAM!, and author of the upcoming book What You Really, Really Want; Sofia Quintero, filmmaker, writer and co-founder of Chica Luna Productions; Melissa Silverstein, editor of Women and Hollywood; Jamia Wilson, activist and VP of programs at the Women’s Media Center.

L.A. Screening at Samuel Goldwyn Theater

Thursday, August 25, 7:30pm

Panel featuring: Actress Geena Davis, producer Mimi Polk Gitlin, and writer Callie Khouri. (Though the website doesn’t say it, I have it on good authority that Ms. Sarandon herself will also be part of the post-screening discussion. I mean!!)
