The Teenage Girl Trio In The ‘Somewhere In America’ Video Is The Future Of Feminism

A teenage trio is leaving viewers speechless with their spoken word poem, “Somewhere in America,” which aired on The Queen Latifah Show last week. If you haven’t watched it yet, the time has come—these young women, who are part of the LA-based nonprofit Get Lit, are airing out today’s toughest issues with a poignancy and power far beyond their years.

The poem begins with all three girls speaking in unison: “The greatest lesson you will ever teach us, you won’t even remember.” What are they talking about? Rape, racism, socioeconomic divides, inequality, and the implicit education women and minorities receive every day about how they are worth less than their status quo counterparts. 

We could go on about how incredible the poem is. But you should probably just check it out for yourself below:
