When I’m not racking up long hours making the cogs of the BUST blog turn, you can find me shelving books part-time at my local library.
So when I found this incredible shot-for-shot remake of the video for the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” filmed in a REAL library, with REAL librarians, it confirmed my theory that librarians do in fact have more fun.
The original video for Sabotage (below) came out in 1994 and was nominated for (but lost) five MTV awards, including Best Group Video. (It lost to R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts,” which sounds like the punchline to a joke, but isn’t.)
The stacks of a library are the BEST place to conduct a high-speed chase – as I found out when my library put on a Hunger Games reenactment in my senior year in high school. (I played a female Seneca Crane in my prom dress, standing on top of the library’s Reference desk.) So it’s no surprise that this video crossed over so well into library-core, a genre that NEEDS to exist, if it doesn’t already.
To misquote Arthur, this video shows that having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library cart.
