Some of them are sweet, some of them are creepy, some of them sound like bad poetry. What else could I be talking about but the Missed Connections posts on Craigslist? If you haven’t been there…well, it’s pretty much a grab bag of stuff. A lot of it starts out cute, but turns out to actually be kind of sad. And who knows how many people actually meet their Missed Connection through Craigslist?
Since public transportation is the setting for many of these posts, illustrator Sophie Blackall (whose art book Missed Connections: Love, Lost & Found, pictured above, was published in September 2011) was commissioned by the MTA of New York City to create an art project based on the theme of Missed Connections. Her work will be displayed throughout the rest of 2012 on an Art Card in the L, F, Q, J, M, Z, 6, and N trains. Art cards like these are part of the Arts for Transit initiative, an MTA project which works to place visual and performing art installations in public transit areas.
