Spend Saturday At A Museum – For Free!

by Libby Zay

If you work hard for the money (so hard for it honey), you’ll be excited to learn that museums nationwide are opening their doors to the penny-pinchin’ public for free tomorrow.  That’s right, absolutely zippo!  The Smithsonian-sponsored Museum Day just requires you print out a pass from their website, and you can walk right in to one of 1,200 participating art galleries, museums, and science centers.

It’s no secret that when it comes to cultural institutions, it’s a man’s man’s man’s man’s world–so, if you’re looking to support a museum that doesn’t underappreciate, misrepresent, or forget all about women, I suggest organizing a highly cultured girls day out to one of these fine lady lovin’ establishments:

And if museums aren’t your idea of a good time, you can get down and dirty while celebrating National Public Lands Day, also scheduled for Saturday.  All 391 National Parks and historic sites will be waiving entrance fees to welcome a clean up crew of volunteers.  Even Lady Liberty is commemorating the event by allowing guests to check her out after dark (for the first time ever!).  Before you take part in the monumental event, be warned: the elevator is currently out of service, so you’ll have to climb 354 steps to reach her crown.
