Sex Worker Cabaret Promises Real Talk

by Intern Jessica W.

The Annie Oakley sex worker art show was a gem in the sea of busting open sexual taboos for women. Showing the world that being open about your sexuality doesn’t make you a freak, being a woman and being sexual doesn’t make you a whore, and it certainly doesn’t mean you have no soul, it makes you a human. For women who have been and are sex workers to share their experiences through artistic performance takes courage. By offering support we are not only encouraging and promoting sexual freedom but we are helping people to understand that just because you are sexual doesn’t mean you don’t have an I.Q. Being accepting of such performances and individuals is another important step in making a sexually open and radical community a comfortable places for women to express themselves without feeling judged. Otherwise, one such community would become obsolete and pointless.

On Sunday June 12th, at Public Assembly in Williamsburg, the second annual Sex Worker Cabaret will take place to celebrate the anniversary of the Annie Oakley Art Show. The cabaret will host a slew of acts with a variety of performance from spoken word to puppetry; burlesque to comedy. This event will feature some of the most vibrant talent the sex-worker community has to offer. It will also be taking place during LGBTQ pride month and is meant to make you question sexual norms and reflect upon your own way of thinking about sexuality. Being sexuality radical female is an important aspect in my life and if you feel the same way go out and support your radical community. Tickets are twelve dollars advance and fifteen at the door,  help the sexually open and diverse community change the world one event at a time.
