I’m super excited for school, you guys. Now, before you say anything, hang with me. Not regular school. I’m talking about a free, online school for teenage girls, with classes to promote imagination and creativity, taught by legends like Cat Power and Marina Abramović. A new Kickstarter for something called the School of Doodle is promising just that, and a new platform for girls to create, connect, build confidence and “Be Loud.”
There are three levels of Doodle—you can either Dabble (explore a bunch of different subjects and lessons to find something that interests you), Dig (zero in on one subject in particular, and start sharing and connecting with like-minded girls), or Do (create lessons and mentor others).
By taking classes and getting involved in the community, you can receive “Doodle Dollars,” a virtual currency which you can exchange in real life for things like cameras and craft supplies, live online chats with experts, and awesome field trips—sorry, dream trips.
Schools across the country are slashing funds for the arts, and School of Doodle wants to provide a space for girls to enhance their courage and creativity, the likes of which are rapidly shrinking in today’s public education system.
But please don’t drop your pencils and textbooks and everything in girlish glee just yet (like I did). It’s not an actual alternative to high school. Think of it more as and enriching, empowering extra-cool extra-curricular.
You can go to their Kickstarter’s webpage to see their videos, read their full mission statement (it’s really thorough—they mean business) and donate, donate, donate!!!
