Watch Samantha Bee Crush This Anti-Abortion Lawmaker

by Alyssa Spizzirro

On Monday night, the show Full Frontal With Samantha Bee aired a segment that advocated for female reproductive rights. Detailing the issues women have been facing in light of anti-choice legislation, Bee unapologetically speaks for women. The segment is informative and tasteful, explaining that the horrifying state of women’s healthcare could only be prolonged if the Supreme Court reaches a deadlock today in the decision of Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt.

Bee playfully called for more pro-choice activism in an interview with Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL pro-choice. They discussed that without access to health care, hundreds of thousands of women are left to their own devices to terminate their pregnancies. Hogue highlights the desperation of women unable to access safe abortions, some of which inquired about drinking or douching with bleach. These are women willing to harm themselves because they can’t have a medical procedure.

This was contrasted by an interview with Dan Flynn, coauthor of the atrocious HB2 legislation. The bill creates restrictions and specifications unnecessary to perform an abortion and unrealistic to maintain, successfully closing clinics. Unsurprisingly, Flynn claims he’s “not a doctor,” while Bee asserted he knew nothing about abortion. The point? There’s been irreparable damage to the healthcare system. The resources and staffing needed to reopen closed clinics is vital and under attack. Bee’s segment is meant to ridicule lawmakers responsible for anti-abortion laws and bring visibility to those on the receiving end.
