RIP Trish Keenan of Broadcast

by Laurie Henzel

We were shocked and saddened to hear the news this morning of the death of Trish Keenan, of the UK band Broadcast. Their label, Warp Records, released this statement today:

“It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.

Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time.

This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly – a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being. Rest in Peace. “

Apparently she had contracted the  H1N1 flu recently. I’m not sure of her exact age, but she could not have been more than 40, a real tragedy.

Keenan’s beautiful, sometimes haunting vocals were the perfect match for the downbeat, electro psychedelic music of Broadcast. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
