Raised In Craftivity

by Susan

Raised in Craftivity, curated by Mara Elena Buszek, is a long-running show at the Wignall Museum at Chaffey College in California . It started up just last night with a curator’s walk and reception. The exhibit features artists who work in typically craft-oriented media like ceramics, beadwork, woodwork and knitting. These are usually disdained as being ‘feminine,’ ‘domestic’ and ‘amateur,’ but today, this kind of craft media is being embraced and subverted. Some of the artists include Elaine Bradford, Orly Corgan, Carolyn Hopkins and the KnittaPlease group. Don’t miss the lectures coming up February 9th and March 2nd by Garth Johnson and Ernest Arthur Bryant III. Let this inspires us all to make more, whether it be so-called ‘art,’ ‘crafts,’ or arts n’ crafts!

Check it out, Garth Johnson’s ceramic pots , this one is called ‘Get Low.’

And of course, the guerilla KnittaPlease group’s ‘Tank Cozy.’
