Lots of clothing brands have taken to sponsoring athletes to get their brand name out there, but Quiksilver’s got a different take on the same idea.
SiteLA is a “communal work and exhibition space” in Silver Lake, California, where six women act as “visionaries in residence” and work on their varying projects during a year-long stay in the house.
The women living there now are Beth Jones, a fashion blogger and entrepreneur, Sarah Anderson, an artist and performer, Pilar Diaz, a bilingual singer-songwriter, Dorothy Le, a bicycling activist, Jesse Rodato, an architect-in-training and interior designer, and Khrystyne Zorian, a transportation designer.
Each woman has her own project that she’s working on while she’s staying in the house, and public events are held there as well. The diverse interests of the crowd can be seen on the website, siteLA.org, where you can watch video and see photographs, find event listings, and read a blog from each woman about her project.
It can be very hard to be a creative person in this country (especially in this economy) without being independently wealthy, and projects like this one seem to be a great way for companies to give back to the world while encouraging innovation and independent thought among young women.
And I’d love to volunteer for the next year’s project…
