Pretty in Pain

by Team Intern

Attention Seattleans! The White River Valley Museum in Seattle is hosting ‘Suffer for Beauty’ , an exhibit exploring ‘ideal’ female body image through the study of what else? Underwear!

Through November 8th, attendees can browse turn-of-the-century bustles, old school petticoats, and mid-century, June Cleaver brassieres. Don’t get any ideas–this is no peep show. Instead, the exhibits demonstrate the ever-changing concept of the female figure and the bizarre measures (lifting, squishing, smoothing, squeezing, and separating) women have used to conform to it.

In addition to the displays, White River Valley Museum also has events on schedule, such as a lecture on women’s suffrage, and–get this!–a vintage fashion show (on Sept. 26)!
