Photos We Love: Women Engineers Celebrating a Successful Mars Mission

by Samantha Albala

On September 26, these engineers from the India Space Research Organization celebrated the successful mission to Mars. This mission was so successful because they were the first country to send a craft that entered Mar’s orbit on the first attempt. It was also the cheapest of all Mars missions, costing only $74 million. Hooray for the Mars Orbiter Mission, aka MOM! This MOM of a mission named their space craft Mangalyann, meaning “Mars craft” in Hindi. It made the trip safely in less than a year, having left November 5, 2013. Congrats ladies! It’s one giant step for womankind!
