Photos of Cute Kittens? Yes, Please!

by Ivanna Avalos

Whenever I see a kitten, whether in person, on TV, or in a picture (doesn’t matter) I turn into a bumbling, baby-talking, crazy-face-making lady. It’s like I’ve seen anything so cute before and I can’t focus anything else. So you can imagine how excited I was when I saw photographer Arne Svenson’s newest project Strays, in which he photographs some hella adorable strays kittens he borrowed from Animalkind Inc, an animal shelter in upstate New York.

This project could have easily been another mindlessly cute yet utterly pointless book with no real substance, but Svenson does a good job of combining great shots of subjects who aren’t even remotely interested in being the center of attention with his theme of shedding light on the unseen and ignored. In this case being the often-ignored lives of stray cats.

Along with the 140 photographs of these painfully sweet looking animals are 23 short stories about the perceived lives of said kittens, one including the story of a kitten overcoming years of troubling addiction. The stories provide a witty and interesting look at the world of kittens, because honestly don’t you just wonder what animals are thinking? (Don’t pretend you don’t.)

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll see in Strays.

Strays will go on sale August 15 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Animalkind Inc., so it’s definitely worth checking out.
